I am Jason Pan, a senior from China. I love aerial photography because it yields a different perspective to see the world around me.
As soon as I pressed the take-off button, I heard the sound of motors buzzing and the high-pitched sound of propeller blades cutting through the air. To my great delight, the drone took off! It was the first time that I had flown one, a small blue quadcopter with a fisheye camera on the front. The drone went higher as I raised the throttle and turned it to “look” at me. From the screen in my hands, I saw myself from a totally different perspective – I took my first aerial selfie! Everything I saw was like magic to me at that point.
Once I arrived at Blair Academy, I kept playing with the drone and gradually improved my piloting skills. It was extremely satisfying to take impressive aerial photos and to see how positively my pictures and videos were received by others. Most people had never seen our campus from the sky, and they were amazed by how beautiful the campus appeared. Eventually, the Blair Admissions Office became aware of my talent and asked me if they could use some of my aerial videos to help promote the school on social media. This was an honor, as they usually don't use student-created images.
Because of my inquisitive nature, I don’t just enjoy flying drones – I also like to take them apart. One time, my curiosity about how drones work led me to stay up all night taking apart the only drone I had and putting it back together. I took notes and pictures while I was disassembling it, so that I would not lose track of which parts go where when I rebuilt it. I was so involved in this activity that I didn’t even realize the passing of time. Following this experience, my passion for drones and related technology increased exponentially. I started to conduct further research into the technology related to drones and even began to design and build new drones from separate parts!
As I learned more about drones, I realized that their potential benefits for the world are virtually unlimited. Drones can be used for scientific research, emergency assistance, package delivery, agricultural applications, environmental protection, building construction and design, and many other fields. This realization led me to think more about the potential benefits of technology and engineering in general. This, in turn, has inspired me to pursue a career in the fields of science, technology, mathematics and mostly engineering, so that I can help make the world a better place.
You may say I'm a dreamer,
But I'm not the only one,
I hope some day you'll join us,
And the world will be as one.
I am originally from Seoul, South Korea but currently go to school at Blair Academy in New Jersey. I've enjoyed taking photos my whole life, but only in the last few years have I started taking photography more seriously. I've learned a lot this year about new ways to take photos, and can't wait to see what I can produce next year!
Hello. My name is Evan Grohowski, and I am a current senior at Blair Academy. When I take photos, I shoot with the intent to bring my audience into my reality. When you view my photography, take in every detail, as every photo was intentionally, and consciously shot that way. Many people use the facial expressions of their subject to portray the emotion of a photo. However, I use aesthetics and my surroundings to tell the story, and let the audience depict what every photograph means individually. Thank you for taking the time to view my work.
My name is Hannah Ciancarelli and I’m from Andover, NJ, but love to travel and take pictures of landscapes and nature. In my time at Blair, I’ve taken every photo course that has been offered, from Photo 1 all the way up to AP and an independent study. Through my work in these classes, I have expanded the breadth and depth of my photographic repertoire. I grew from putting together a simple collection of nature photos in my freshman year to capturing a story of grief through the photos for my AP portfolio concentration. I’ll be continuing to pursue photography in addition to other academic subjects in the Humanities at Lafayette College next year.
Hi! I'm Clare, I am a junior at Blair Academy and I am from Bechtelsville, Pennsylvania. I fell in love with taking photos from a young age, and have always enjoyed sharing the meaning and the stories behind them, and learning about others! Before my freshmen year, I found out from my mom that Blair offered a photography course. I was beyond happy and I couldn't wait to start the school year! Since then, I've learned a lot about photography and I can't wait to learn more. My favorite type of photography is landscape as well as macro photography! I hope you enjoy my photos as much as I do!
My name is Jackie Chen and I'm from China. I enjoy taking pictures of both western and eastern architecture. Using long exposure to capture light is also one of my favorite things to do.
I am going to be in AP Photography this year, my senior year. These are a couple of my best and I can't wait to add more soon. Hope you enjoy!

I'm Anh Nguyen and I'm from Vietnam. Ever since I was young, I've loved taking photos because I was always fascinated with the idea that you can capture a moment and keep it. My passion for photography only developed around 5 years ago when I got my first DSLR camera. Ever since my goal has been to capture as many moments as I can, furthermore, use photography as a means of showing people's stories. I'm excited to take my photography more seriously and develop my skills in AP Photo next year!

I am from New Jersey and I am a sophomore at Blair Academy. When I came to Blair I was able to learn more techniques and receive guidance on how to improve my photography. This portfolio contains some of my best work. It includes photos of people, animals and landscapes, varying from both black and white to color. I hope you enjoy.
My name is Katie and I am a junior. I was very excited to take photo this year because it was a class I openly chose to take. I am not the most artistic person, so photography is a way for me to express my artistic side without touching a pencil or paint brush. In my portfolio, you will see many portraits along with nature shots. I like taking photos of people to interpret their expression along with body language. In addition, Blair's campus is a great property for shooting. Overall, I really enjoyed photo class this semester.
Hi! I am a sophomore at Blair Academy, and this was my first year taking photography. I just completed Photo 2, and next year I will be taking Advanced Digital Photography. I love taking photos and am learning more and more every day in class. These photos are some of my best work from Photo 2, and I can’t wait to add more next year. I hope you enjoy!
My central focus for my portfolio was to capture "uncontrived moments of people focused naturally". I wanted to take photos of people in their natural, comfortable setting doing their everyday tasks. These settings may not have been unique to the people in the photos, however, the settings to most people, especially people at Blair, are unique, cultured and different. Here I also challenged myself to take photos that are different in perspective. Whether it's the streets of Hong Kong, the Philippines, New York or the Dominican Republic, beauty can be found in the simple things - in everyday, "normal" tasks.
