 Concentration

Colour brings the world to life. Colour makes up all of the beauty we see and all of the things we love most. 12 colours make up the photos of my concentration, each represented by someone who embodies or loves that colour the most. Using different subject matters and a simple central composition, I sought to fill each frame entirely with its respective colour as it was personified by the model(s). In my concentration, colour not only brings the world to life, but also these portraits.

In order: Pink, Red, Coral, Orange, Yellow, Light Green, Dark Green, Teal, Light Blue, Dark Blue, Light Purple, Dark Purple

Image 2 was the first image captured of this series and also served as inspiration for the other 11. Seeing how red filled this photo's entire frame so beautifully led me to challenge myself with creating 11 more images doing the same thing but each with their own colour and mood. I chose a central composition for all of these images to test how different I could make them each feel using techniques of foreground, reflections, proximity to model, number of models, and lighting techniques. In image 3 I used the glass of my phone screen to create an almost overlay reflection of her in the frame. With image 6 I used reflection again while having the model hold the mirror to make it seem as though he was holding the photo frame himself. In images 1, 6, and 11 I used the foreground of the image to highlight certain features of the models and obscure the view for visual interest. In images 6, 9, and 12 I used backlight to create a glowing effect around the model. Since I used a central composition for all of these photos, I wanted to have a difference in subject material such as in images 4 and 7 where I have 2 models. I also tried to incorporate a difference in proximity to the model such as in photos 1 and 10 where the focus is closer and on their eyes and in images 6, 9, and 12 where you can see more of their full bodies.
