Starting with Analog Photo 1 sophomore year changed the course of my Blair career. After three years, I'm proud to say I've gotten substantially better at taking pictures, mostly because of my dedication. As my portfolio and swan song, I really wanted to highlight an animal that has developed into a sign of fate and family. I wanted to capture my journey and developing relationship with the foxes on campus, and give any viewer a window into the way I see the animals and the months of work that went into it. I'm glad to capture some of the whimsy and silliness that I think makes any project worth its salt. I hope to continue taking photos and discovering new passions that will inevitably take over a full calendar year of my life.

Hi, I am Victoria Ross and I will be graduating in the class of 2025. I have been exploring the art of photography in many forms since I was a sophmore at Blair. Although I started my photograohy journey with analog photos in black & white, I have grown a deep love for taking digital photos in which I can manipulate lighting, color, and effects. Throuhout my sustained investigated I wanted to take advange of all that was acessable to me in the studio, creating eye-catching and vibrant images that portrayed a deeper message than just beauty.

For my portfolio, I focused on how much people, especially the seniors, change over time. I wanted to compare their childhood selves to their current selves to reflect the journey of self-discovery they have gone through. Doing this project, I learned how much people grow into themselves and the differences that make them unique. 

Over my 4 years of photography classes at Blair, I have taken photos of hundreds of different things ranging from beautiful landscapes to high intensity basketball games or squash matches. Throughout my time behind a camera I have realized that the photos I have taken of wildlife over the years hold a special place in my heart. So, I decided to use my sustained investigation to share that feeling with other people. I have always loved animals, and Blair has prompted me to love photography just as much. My senior year has taught me to take both of my passions and blend the world of art and animals together. I believe that the greatness of a photo comes from life. Life as nature, life as our actions, life as our thoughts. Over the past four years in Blair, I've been exploring and experimenting upon this idea. What does it mean to fly and to strive? What is the difference that separates life from death?

Over my past four years in photography I have had the opportunity to grow immensely in my skill set and style. As a second-year photography student, I discovered the true importance of photography through a spontaneous project in Blairstown. With no specific direction, I was simply told to capture whatever drew my eye. As I wandered the town, I began approaching strangers and asking to take their portraits—an experience that pushed me far out of my comfort zone. What began as an assignment quickly turned into something deeper. I realized that photography is not just about the final image, but about the human connection formed in the moment.

Hi! I'm Maddie and I'm from Bangkok, Thailand. I've been taking photo for five of my six semesters here at Blair. I originally started with portraits and pictures of flowers, but upon also joining the after school photo activity my senior year, I shifted completely to sports photography. During the fall, I focused solely on football and capturing the moments within that. During the winter season, I focused on basketball and wrestling. I attended every game possible, travelling to Hun, St. Benedicts, and Wyoming Seminary to name a few. My sustained investigation illustrates a cohesive narrative of Blair's successful basketball season. My selected works overlap slightly with my sustained investigation, with some other pieces I have created. 

Over the past few years, photography for me has been a way for me to freeze time; to really focus in on those moments that would normally blaze by us without being recognized or acknowledged. While my educational photography journey might be over now, the skills and passion I have acquired at Blair will stick with me for as long as I can still click the shutter button or load in a new roll of film.

I'm Machua Muchugia and I've taken photography for four years. This portfolio includes my final works during my senior year. This year I focused on portraiture and experimenting with different materials. This portfolio was an investigation into intimacy in my life and the world around me. I am a senior from Blairstown, New Jersey and I have been taking photo since freshman year. Throughout my time, I have most enjoyed manipulating photos physically, ie. through weaving, collaging, and embroidering. My sustained investigation has shifted from taking self-portraits of my friends to capturing moments of my senior year. After experimenting with film for a part of the year, I realized that my work with color was not only more fun but created work that I am proud of. Hi! I'm a graduating senior and this is my fourth and final year of photography at Blair. I have gone through each level starting with photo 1 in the darkroom through AP and now into an independent study. My favourite thing to photograph is people and often use backlight and colour to emphasise my subjects. I have loved getting to know both analog and digital photography and my greatest highlight from photography at Blair is the progression I have made as a portrait photographer.

This year as a Senior I was enrolled in a portfolio photo class, or the class after Ap. The goal of this class was to create a portfolio that you're super proud of, but due to unforeseen circumstances, I had to change my approach. With Covid-19 leaving me without a DSLR camera at home I was forced to think outside the box. I decided to change my portfolio to "Shot on iphone." So all the pictures below were captured using my iphone.

Hi, I'm Preston Krivulka I took AP photo my Junior year at Blair. If I never came to Blair I would never have even picked up a camera, however thankfully I found something that I am passionate about and love doing. My favorite things to shoot are sports and nature. I love how being close to the action taking pictures at sporting events really brings me closer to the action, and I am able to feel the emotions of the game. I am thankful that Blair introduced me to photography and look forward to continuing it in the future.

Hi! I took AP Photo during my senior year at Blair Academy. I have done photo for most of my time at Blair. I have really enjoyed the past couple years in the photo program and will miss it!

Throughout my childhood I have always been interested in photography. In high school, I took photography for three years and completed and AP portfolio my senior year. During these years I was able to explore different styles of photography and use different techniques in my photos. While I enjoy taking all types of photos ranging from long exposure to studio portraits, I really enjoy taking landscapes and portraits that incorporate a lot of texture. I also really enjoy shooting in black and white.

Photography has been the highlight of my Blair career. From Photo 1 all the way through my independent study, I have loved every second of it and have learned so much. I’m Olivia Altman and I’m from Knowlton, NJ. My main focus is portrait photography and showing emotion and a story through the subjects. Studio photography has been my main go to and the fun part has been being able to do the weirdest shoots possible during my time in photo class.

Hi! My name is Clare and this is my AP Portfolio! I've enjoyed taking photos ever since I was little, and when I found out Blair had a photography program I knew I wanted to do it! As I started taking the classes and learning more and more to what photography is, I knew it's what I want to do. I graduated Blair in 2018 and I am so happy I chose to take AP Photography. This class gave me a chance to experiment with different perspectives and shutter speeds, and out of those experiments came my Concentration. I also was able to explore different styles of photography that I hadn't before. I never thought of myself a portrait photographer before this class, but by being required to complete different projects I was forced to take more portraits. Now I have some portraits in my Breadth and Concentration and I didn't think I would have any in my portfolio at all.
