How can reflections distort reality and alter one's perspective? I sought to adjust my audience’s view of landscapes and city streets by leveraging reflections and challenge the way people see the world. By doing this I created powerful moments by mirroring from puddles to the heavens. Image #3 first inspired my sustained investigation of how reflections can alter one's perspective when I captured a fanciful photo of the sky reflecting against a New York City building. After taking this photo I challenged myself to try new techniques with the use of a neutral density filter as seen in image #1. In this photo, I used a shutter speed of 2 seconds to create smooth reflection on the water which makes the photo heavenly and otherworldly. Throughout my time working on my sustained investigation this year, my brother has accompanied and modeled for me as we went to new places seeking interesting reflections, as seen in image #7. Since the pandemic outbreak hit New Jersey, my brother has continued to help me expand my portfolio for image #10 in capturing this emotional reflection against our bathroom window at home.
