Materials:

  • Photo printed on photo paper or canvas paper

  • Needle

  • Thread (several different colors)>>

  • Scissors

  • Cushion

Example base image

Step 1: Print your photo on a paper of choice (I prefer either photo paper, better for words and big lines, or canvas paper, better for smaller shapes with detail)

TIP: If you are using photo paper, line the back where you are sewing with masking tape to make the paper stronger and easier to work with!

Step 2: Take the color thread you want and feed it through the needle. Make a knot so that the thread stays attached to the needle when weaving.

Step 3: Push the needle all the way through the paper from the back to the front, and tie a knot at the end of the thread that is not tied to the needle. This will prevent the thread from falling out once weaving begins.

TIP: Poke the holes to make the shape you want before you start embroidering so you just need to follow the holes already made!

Step 4: Taking the thread and needle in the front of the page, send it back to the rear of the page at the desired length away for the shape you are making. For example, make it half a centimeter or less for the teardrop in order to get as much detail as possible.

Step 5: Next, at the rear, make another hole and send the needle through to the front. Once it is at the front, push it to the back through the previous hole, which should make a line of thread in the front of the page.

Step 6: Continue these steps to create the shape you want

Step 7: Continue the process with each shape until you have your desired product!

Step 8: Thread the needle through to the back of the page and tie a knot.
